Former Wells Fargo EVP, Deputy General Counsel, and Head of Government Relations and Public Policy, David Moskowitz, Joins Better Markets as Senior Fellow

WASHINGTON, D.C.— After a long and successful financial industry career, David Moskowitz has joined Better Markets as a Senior Fellow.

After serving in numerous roles over almost 30-years, Mr. Moskowitz concluded his career with Wells Fargo & Company and its predecessors as an Executive Vice President and Head of Government Relations and Public Policy from April 2017 until June 2020. In navigating unprecedented reputational, political, legal, and regulatory challenges, he designed, developed, and implemented a new government and public policy strategy for one of the nation’s largest GSIBs (global systematically important banks). In his earlier role as EVP and General Counsel of Wells Fargo’s mortgage division, he led the company’s fair lending programs, its participation in the National Foreclosure Settlement (involving 49 state Attorneys General, the US DOJ, HUD, and the Executive Office of the US Trustee), and its efforts to develop improved and simplified consumer products.

“David’s deep knowledge, experience, and expertise in banking, financial services, regulation, consumer finance, and public policy will be invaluable to Better Markets,” said Dennis Kelleher, Co-Founder, President and CEO of Better Markets. “David understands how the nation’s biggest banks, Washington, and Wall Street work, and shares our mission that finance should serve society, support the real productive economy, and enable broad based wealth creation and rising living standards for all Americans. We look forward to working with him on those goals.”

“The banking crisis of 2023 reminded everyone that financial industry policymaking is critically important to all Americans. That’s why a robust, substantive public interest perspective, which Better Markets uniquely provides, is essential in that process,” said Mr. Moskowitz. “I look forward to joining the Better Markets’ team of experts and advocating for the economic security, opportunity and prosperity for Main Street American families.”

David Moskowitz started his career with Wells Fargo & Company when he joined Prudential Home Mortgage Company, Inc. in 1993 as a mortgage banking attorney.  He was promoted to Associate General Counsel when the firm was acquired by Norwest Corporation. After Norwest acquired Wells Fargo in 1998, he moved to Wells Fargo Home Mortgage’s Des Moines, Iowa headquarters and was named WFHM’s Executive Vice President and General Counsel, and later EVP and Deputy General Counsel for all Wells Fargo & Company consumer lending businesses. In April 2017, he was appointed EVP and Head of Government Relations and Public Policy. Starting in July 2020, he has been a consultant on banking, fair lending, financial technology, regulatory relations, communications, enforcement, and corporate social responsibility (ESG) issues. Mr. Moskowitz is a graduate of Union College (NY) and Case Western University Law School.
