David L. Moskowitz

David Moskowitz is a Senior Fellow at Better Markets, where he provides advice on legal and bank regulatory policy and other matters relevant to financial services.

Prior to Better Markets, David Moskowitz was the Executive Vice President and Head of Government Relations & Public Policy at Wells Fargo & Company until he retired in June of 2020.  He started his career with the company when he joined Prudential Home Mortgage Company, Inc. in 1993 as a mortgage banking attorney.  He was promoted to Associate General Counsel when the firm was acquired by Norwest Corporation.  After Norwest acquired Wells Fargo & Company in 1998, he moved to Wells Fargo Home Mortgage’s Des Moines, Iowa headquarters and was named WFHM’s Executive Vice President and General Counsel, and later EVP and Deputy General Counsel for all Wells Fargo consumer lending businesses.  In those roles, he led the company’s fair lending programs, its participation in the National Foreclosure Settlement (involving 49 state Attorneys General, the US DOJ, HUD, and the Executive Office of the US Trustee), and its efforts to develop improved and simplified consumer products.

In 2017, Mr. Moskowitz was asked by the company’s leadership to design and implement a new government relations and public policy platform, with the intention of developing consistent company positions on banking policy matters.  In that role, he worked in a bi-partisan way with federal, state, and local government entities, NGOs, media organizations, trade groups, consumer groups, elected officials, regulators, influencers, and national advocacy groups.

Mr. Moskowitz graduated from Union College (New York) with an interdepartmental degree in Biology and English and received his JD degree from Case Western University Law School (Cleveland, Ohio).  He is a member of the New York and District of Columbia bars.
