Marc Jarsulic

Marc Jarsulic was the Chief Economist at Better Markets, Inc. He has extensive experience in economic policy research and market regulation. From 2009 to 2011, Dr. Jarsulic was Chief Economist for the Democratic staff of the Senate Committee on Banking Housing and Urban Affairs. During that time, he played a key role in drafting the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. He also served as Deputy Staff Director and Chief Economist for the Democratic staff of the congressional Joint Economic Committee during 2007-2009, where he led a team that undertook one of the first studies of the subprime mortgage crisis prior to the 2008 financial crisis. Between 1998 and 2007, Dr. Jarsulic practiced law, serving as senior risk advisor in the Securities and Exchange Commission’s Office of Risk Assessment and practiced antitrust law at the Federal Trade Commission. Until 1998, he was Professor of Economics at the University of Notre Dame.  He has a Ph.D. in Economics (Pennsylvania) and a J.D. (Michigan).  Dr. Jarsulic’s publications include Anatomy of a Financial Crisis: A Real Estate Bubble, Runaway Credit Markets, and Regulatory Failure (Palgrave Macmillan, 2010).
