Veteran House Staffer Joins Better Markets as Senior Counsel and Director of Research

Washington, D.C. – Dennis Kelleher, President and CEO of Better Markets, announced today that Frank Medina has been named Senior Counsel and Director of Research. Mr. Medina is joining the organization from the professional staff of the House Financial Services Committee, where he spent seven years as Deputy Chief Counsel and Senior Counsel.

“With years of public and private sector experience, in Congress, at the SEC, at a too-big-to-fail bank and prominent law firms, Frank will be instrumental in helping Better Markets promote the public interest in finance and the financial markets,” said Dennis Kelleher, President and CEO of Better Markets. “Frank has had senior roles at the House Financial Services Committee for the past seven years and participated in the consideration and drafting of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. His deep knowledge of Congress, finance, banking, financial reform and the economy will help us strengthen our financial system and support Americans’ jobs, businesses, homes, savings and investments.”

Mr. Medina said, “Finishing the rules to implement financial reform and making sure they are not watered down are vital to ending the threat that too-big-to-fail firms still pose not only to themselves and the financial system, but also to America’s families, workers, and its economy. Hardworking Americans need these reforms to ensure that finance does what it’s supposed to do: support businesses of all sizes, helping them grow so that they can hire workers and raise the standards of living for all Americans.”

Prior to joining Better Markets, Mr. Medina served as Deputy Chief Counsel and Senior Counsel on the professional staff of the House Financial Services Committee, where he drafted legislation and amendments and wrote reports on major financial regulatory issues considered by the Committee, including financial stability, systemic risk, the Federal Reserve and financial crises. Prior to his work on the committee, he served as a Senior Attorney at the Securities and Exchange Commission, Associate General Counsel at Citigroup, Inc., and was an associate at the law firms of Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering and Cravath, Swaine & Moore. Mr. Medina holds an AB from Brown University and a JD with honors from the University of Chicago Law School.
