“Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Mary Jo White has tapped Stephen Luparello, a former executive at the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority who has also worked at the SEC, to a top post overseeing trading firms and stock exchanges, people familiar with the matter said.”
“Mr. Luparello has accepted the job as director of the SEC’s division of trading and markets, but an announcement could be several weeks away as he works through a lengthy vetting process for top government officials, these people said. Mr. Luparello is a partner at law firm Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale & Dorr LLP in Washington.”
“Mr. Luparello’s practice focuses on large and medium-size brokerages, said a person familiar with the matter. It couldn’t be learned what firms he represents. His involvement with brokerage firms, which are regulated by the SEC, could present conflicts of interest, and Mr. Luparello may have to recuse himself from certain matters if they involve former clients, as well as sell stocks and other investments.”
