FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Monday, May 4, 2020
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Better Markets has joined with #GivingTuesdayNow to raise awareness and grow support for its fight to build a strong, inclusive economy fueled by a safer, sounder financial system that serves all Americans, creates jobs and economic growth, rebuilds the middle class, reduces inequality, and makes the American Dream available again.
#GivingTuesdayNow is a new global day of giving and unity that will take place on May 5, 2020, – in addition to the regularly scheduled Dec. 1, 2020 #GivingTuesday. The day is designed to drive an influx of generosity, citizen engagement, business and philanthropy activation and support for communities and nonprofits around the world.
Better Markets CEO Dennis Kelleher says the work that Better Markets does as a Wall Street and government watchdog is more important than ever as the coronavirus has morphed from a health crisis into a human, economic and financial crisis.
“We’re working hard to keep in place federal regulatory policies that help build a safer, sounder financial system that protects and promotes Americans’ jobs, savings, retirements and more,” Kelleher says. “But a post-crisis economic and financial system that prioritizes hardworking Americans is going to be a huge battle intellectually, politically and financially.”
That’s why it is vital that Better Markets has a strong coalition of supporters who understand and reinforce the work that it is doing for hardworking Americans, says Kelleher.
“We are preparing for those post-crises battles now,” Kelleher says. “By fighting together, we will get a better financial system that serves society and reduces inequality, produces broad-based prosperity, supports democracy and enables everyone to achieve the American Dream.”
