WASHINGTON, D.C.— Dennis Kelleher, Co-founder, President, and CEO, issued the following statement in connection with the nominations of Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) Commissioner Christy Goldsmith Romero to be Chair of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) and CFTC Commissioner Kristin Johnson to be Assistant Secretary for Financial Institutions at the Treasury Department:
“The nominations of CFTC Commissioner Christy Goldsmith Romero to be Chair of the FDIC and CFTC Commissioner Kristin Johnson to be Assistant Secretary for Financial Institutions at the Treasury Department are both outstanding and well qualified candidates.
“Commissioner Christy Goldsmith Romero brings a wealth of experience to the FDIC. She has served as a CFTC Commissioner since March 2022 and previously spent a decade as the Special Inspector General for the Troubled Asset Relief Program (SIGTARP), where she led investigations resulting in over $11 billion in recoveries and criminal charges against hundreds of defendants. Her extensive background in securities law, enforcement, and financial regulation uniquely qualifies her to lead the FDIC in ensuring the stability and integrity of our financial system.
“Commissioner Kristin Johnson has a distinguished career in both academia and financial regulation. As a law professor and CFTC Commissioner, she has focused on financial markets regulation, risk management, and compliance. Her work has been pivotal in addressing complex issues such as cybersecurity, fintech, and market integrity. Her expertise will be invaluable in her new role at the Treasury Department, where she will oversee policies impacting financial institutions across the nation.
“We applaud these nominations and are confident that both Commissioner Goldsmith Romero and Commissioner Johnson will serve with distinction if confirmed by the Senate. We hope they will quickly receive full and fair consideration by the Senate.”
