Better Markets Applauds Nomination of Caroline A. Crenshaw for Another Term as SEC Commissioner

WASHINGTON, D.C.— Stephen Hall, Legal Director and Securities Specialist, issued the following statement in connection with the nomination Caroline A. Crenshaw to serve another term as a Commissioner of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC):

“This is an outstanding nomination and just the right decision at the right time.   Commissioner Crenshaw has all of the credentials one could hope for, from top-notch academic achievements to deep and extensive experience in numerous senior positions at the Commission.

“But the single most important reason to celebrate this nomination is her proven track record over the past four years as an SEC Commissioner.  In that role, she has demonstrated that she is a staunch, thoughtful, and consistent champion of investors—those whom the Commission was established to serve.  The Commission continues to fight for necessary reforms in the securities markets, including making our markets fairer for everyday investors and battling the epically lawless practices of the crypto industry.  But it faces intense opposition at every turn, from some within the Commission as well as countless industry lobbyists and litigants on the outside.  Now more than ever, and in the face of these challenges, the SEC needs Commissioner Crenshaw’s proven expertise and tireless commitment to what’s best for markets and investors.

“We hope and expect that Commissioner Crenshaw will receive full and fair consideration by the U.S. Senate and that she will be unanimously confirmed as soon as possible, as she was in 2020.”
