Anyone who cares about reporting excellence, the state of the world and being intelligently and comprehensively informed about that world has to be sad at the loss of New York Times’ foreign correspondent Anthony Shadid.  This isn’t a loss for the New York Times or the media.  This is a loss for the country.  He was a brilliant and gifted reporter who opened some of the most important windows on the world for all of us and we will all feel his loss.
