May 23, 2013

May 21, 2013 – House Agriculture Committee hearing entitled "The Future of the CFTC: Market Perspective."

This hearing is the first in a series of Committee meetings Chairman Lucas plans in advance of writing legislation for the reauthorization of the CFTC. The agency’s authorizing legislation expires at the end of the current fiscal year.

Ranking Member Peterson noted it has been almost three years since the passage of the the Dodd/Frank law and he believes most of the major regulations may soon be finalized. Accordingly, he hopes to evaluate how Dodd/Frank is working before the Committee deals with reauthorization issues.

The witnesses represented major market players and their trade industries. They reported on their current views on pending regulations and generally did not look beyond the implementation of the financial reform legislation.
